I expect to take several recommendations from the bibliography at the back as well. ...more This book was very good and have great insights into Judaism, but it was geared towards Americans so some of the material wasn't applicable to a British potential convert. The tombstone above says "Esther bat Mordecai" (Elsie, daughter of Morrice). On the contrary, as Thomas Paine wrote about the Bible: "It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it as I detest everything that is cruel." [ 142 ] Sadly, this history of atrocities, humiliations and oppression includes the long and often tragic history of the Jewish people.
